Part of any technical company is technical service. Lifelong loyalty can be won and lost through technical service. There’s nothing worse than being dead in the water with a deadline looming. I’m very familiar with that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach that comes from a broken instrument. When you’re feeling like that, help – real help – feels like a lifeline.
I still remember my first experience with technical service: I was fresh out of college and was tasked to perform a method using an autotitrator. My boss went on vacation just after tasking me, and as a young, bright-eyed employee, I wanted to get the work done before he got back. My only problem was that I had no clue how to work the instrument. Even though I placed that tech service call eleven years ago, I still remember the name of lady who helped me: Nancy. Poor Nancy. I’m sure I was a huge pain. She spent hours answering my questions over multiple calls, but at the end of the process, I was able to run the autotitrator!
